1/14:
International Call In - Hands off the Uhuru Movement!
The
Uhuru Movement is under attack by Boley Centers, Inc.
Boley Centers, a so-called "non-profit" receives
over 20 million dollars from the government and private
corporations to provide housing and other social services
for low-income, homeless and disabled people in the
Tampa/St Petersburg, FL area. However, Boley has been
stealing these resources that are mainly tax-dollars
meant for the African community. Audits and investigations
have exposed that there is at least $1 million missing.
Once they had been exposed they tried to put the blame
on two of their employees who are also members of the
Uhuru Movement, Angela Waller, daughter of Uhuru Movement
Chairman Omali Yeshitela, and Valerie Sanders.
This initiated an all out attack on the Uhuru Movement.
Angela and Valerie were fired and 4 other members of
the Uhuru Movement who were receiving housing assistance
from Boley had their housing vouchers terminated. Boley
gave no explanation why people were losing their housing
or how they could appeal.
What
is certain is that this is an attack targeted at the
Uhuru Movement. It is a violation of African democratic
rights and right to freedom of association. People who
were members of the Democratic Party or NAACP were not
targeted or made homeless. This is a part of the overall
attack on the African Community and part of the national
housing crisis.
The
movement has been organizing against this attack and
has successfully pushed Boley back, keeping them on
the defensive. Burning Spear Productions released a
video,
available on YouTube, that helped to expose Boley
and the Uhuru Movement has done outreach and demonstratioins
at the CEO’s house, major fundraising events, and City
Hall. We will keep the pressure on until our demands
are met. Please support the Uhuru Movement and democratic
rights by participating in this call campaign.

12/20:
Emergency Call In - Release Valerie Sanders
Valerie
Sanders, a member of the Uhuru Movement in St. Petersburg,
Florida, is being held at the Pinellas County jail on
false charges of grand theft. To safeguard Sanders and
secure her immediate release, it's urgent that all supporters
of free speech call the jail immediately.
Valerie
is being framed by Boley Centers, Inc. because she spoke
out after being fired for her affiliation with the Uhuru
Movement. She and Angelia Waller, Uhuru Movement Chairman
Omali Yeshitela's daughter, were both fired this month
for no reason except they are associated with the Uhuru
Movement. Other individuals associated with the Uhuru
Movement have been notified by Boley that they are being
terminated from their HUD housing assistance.
Boley
has violated federal law in arbitrarily terminating
housing assistance from eligible residents based on
their political aff iliation. They must immediately
reinstate Sanders and Waller with back pay and restore
the housing status of the residents or should be denied
further funding from the City of St. Petersburg.
International
Call-in beginning Thursday night, Dec. 20th

Sanders who is being held on charges based only
on a false allegation orchestrated by Boley.

you don't see this until Friday, call-in then. Stay
tuned for updates on the situation on this page or on
www.UhuruNews.com.

Urgent Call In - Tell Boley/St. Pete to Stop Attack
on Uhuru Movement
Boley
Centers, Inc. is a non-profit multi-million dollar company
that is supposed to be providing assistance to people
in need. They operate in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee
and Sarasota Counties in Florida with programs around
housing, disabilities, and mental illness. Boley receives
the majority of their funding from the City of St. Petersburg
and are currently cooperating with the city to unleash
a vicious attack on the Uhuru Movement.
On
Saturday, December 1st, four Uhuru Movement members
received a letter from Boley Centers, Inc. saying that
they “did not comply with the City of St. Petersburg
housing criteria” and their housing voucher will be
terminated effectively Dec 31 (new year’s eve). There
was no mention of what they did not comply with, what
could be done to comply, or how to appeal this termination.
This means that people who need housing assistance will
now be forced out of their homes on the holidays because
they are members of the Uhuru Movement.
The
Uhuru Movement is urging people to call-in!
